I´m on a role here this evening - as i put down nodes - is there a way to edit them as I go before clicking on accept/ok. SayIi put down 8 or 9 nodes and now no longer like the placement of the first and fifth ones how can I move them? Going back and clicking on them just makes a path to them.

No, you´d need to finish the shape first. You can backspace, but not fix the 3rd node if you´re already on the 8th or 9th. You can backspace your way to the 3rd, but of course you´d have to re-enter all the nodes after that.
If I may add, it´s probably easier anyway to finish the shape and then just edit whichever node or nodes you need to edit.
