Thanks for you replies! Now I am able to complete the object and then have to select the whole object for editing nodes. Is there a way to move/edit the drawn nodes in the "half picture" before clicking on close with mirror. Even after the whole picture is completed - clickingand dragging on the node will neither highlight nor move it. Please help. Dana

The mirroring tool only works in digitizing mode, so as soon as you click a node to edit it, you´re out of the digitizing mode.
The tool is intended to speed up the process of creating symmetric shapes, so it works best when the first half and second half match.
If the halves don´t match, then it´s better to digitize one half, edit its shape and nodes as needed, then copy & paste the entire half, mirror it, align as needed, and edit entry / exit points accordingly to have continuous sewing. This whole editing process is what the mirroring tool will save you from, if the shape in indeed symmetric.
