We´ve installed this product on over a dozen machines over the past 3 years, and have found that it only works correctly on less than 50% of the machines we try (that´s why it took trying a dozen computers to get good installs of just 4 or 5 licenses).

Just depending on the computer, various crashing/bugs are often encountered - even on the ones that "work" - we live with the minor bugs. But we´ve certainly tried enough where it simply isn´t useable - constant crashing at various (but repeatable) times, like selecting the text tool or something.

I´m not surprised to hear that it isn´t running right on your new computer. Wish I had some good advice, but my only advice really is - buy a different computer. Even another computer of the same model might work! We haven´t figure out why. It´s not like we have any crazy configurations or weird stuff on our machines. It literally only seems to work right about half the time we try. Needless to say, we´ve incurred a lot of additional expense buying computers that ERA doesn´t work on, only to end up being stuck with them. Last month I installed it on this awesome new MacBook Pro running Windows via Fusion and it *almost* worked - but crashes every time the text tool is selected. So I have to constantly save and select the tool and it crashes and reopen the program and the file then do the text. This is an example of what I call "works."

I´m hoping that their new v15 will run more smoothly on more machines.

I just installed it on 1 of 2 new laptops using Windows 8....Ugh, the issue I am having is this: Everytime I try to open the Object Manager it keeps locking up and I have to go to the computers Task Manager and Quit the program. It doesn´t give me the option to save my work ether. This is my fist time trying the program on the new computer and I am super frustrated to say the least. I have one other computer to install it on and I sure hope it does not have the same issue. Surely Sierra has a fix for this!!! (Wishful thinking).

When I posted my issue/complaint about Hotfix Era rarely working on machines (about 50% of the time) I was, within days, e-mailed a comprehensive list of things to try as solutions.

Why don´t they make this info public or easily accessible? I don´t know.

Why did I not get this same info years ago when I first inquired into the problem then was left on my own with no answers to keep buying machines in the hopes it would work? I don´t know.

Most significantly, why was software released that requires so many workarounds? Sure, I get that all machines are different, video cards/antivirus can cause conflicts/issues, etc, but can you imagine if a mainstream company put out software like this that makes you jump through hoops just to get it to work right? The company would go out of business. Fortunately for Sierra, they know they have a hot product with few good alternatives, so customers will put up with it. I mean, once you read the below instructions, you´ll agree it´s laughable, but... whatcha gonna do?!

Here in detail is the instructions I received. I haven´t tried them, but will next time we do an install on a new machine and it doesn´t work. Good luck!

Dear User,

Here are some crashing/freezing troubleshooting steps:

· Disable the Antivirus and the Windows firewall and run it again.
· Remove any cleaning programs (such as Ccleaner, Malwarebytes, System Mechanic, etc).
· Check that program shortcuts are not set to "Run in compatibility mode" (right-click on program shortcut, properties, compatibility tab).
· Make sure you are running the latest video card drivers (very important).
· Disable the User Account Control (UAC).
· Disable the Aero feature. (very important).
· Change the video hardware acceleration on the options & preferences. How to:

1. Click on the main application button, Preferences, Options and preferences
2. Change the video hardware acceleration to a different value (TRY EVERY ONE).

If none of these solutions work, reinstall with ANTIVIRUS DISABLED.

1. Uninstall Hotfix Era from the Control Panel. Restart the computer.
2. Download and extract EraClean1141.zip (http://www.d-era.com/downloads/Tools/EraClean1141.zip). Execute EraClean.exe. Then, restart the computer again.
3. Disable your antivirus/firewall protection to avoid installation issues. ***
4. Reinstall the latest Hotfix Era version 11.41. You can download the full version from the site: http://www.d-era.com/design_era/dws/srv_liveupdate.asp (Second option, full version).

*** Even though you disable the antivirus during installation, antivirus will scan and delete the file once you enable it again. Another possibility is that another program (such as MalwareBytes, Ccleaner, System Mechanic, Etc) is deleting the file.

This file deletion will cause the software to fail on certain input / output commands, or even preventing it from starting up altogether.

A more direct approach is to manually add a few critical Sierra files/folders to the "safe list" on your antivirus (If it has the option for it) once the software has been installed and BEFORE enable it again.

Paths to exclude:
For 64-bits Windows 7/8:
- C:\Program Files(X86)\Sierra\
- C:\Program Files(X86)\Common Files\Sierra\
- C:\ProgramData\Sierra\

For 32-bits Windows 7/8:
- C:\Program Files\Sierra\
- C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sierra\
- C:\ProgramData\Sierra\

Really sorry to hear your issues, but we have computer freezes on save quite often and there is no auto save that works to the point of last stone placement.
